@GranddadWoolly - The Vanilla Tape (Mixtape)

Granddad Woolly of the USA is an 26 year old Northwest, Indiana emcee currently in Atlanta, GA building his buzz. His sound contains elements of Old School, Golden Era, Boom Bap and Sci-Fi Hip Hop. The fact that his career is based off a long running novel like storyline as well as his unique songwriting, lyricism and delivery makes him someone to keep an eye on. He is an artist who although remains true to his style and craft, never boxes himself and comes off predictable. His new project “The Vanilla Tape” serves as a self reflection through music dealing with all of the obstacles and achievements that have been thrown his way up to now. The production is done solely by UK producer Vanilla and is to date the most musically and soul inspired Granddad Woolly project to date. This is also the first free project Woolly has offered in more than 5 years making it a gem that anyone can get their hands on.

@NotorietyMusic - Outsiders (Single)

“Outsiders” is the first single off of Notoriety's upcoming mixtape, "The Ground Table”, and aims to touch home with those who feel lost, confused or are just unsure where they belong. Whether it be in one particular situation or an existential life question, feeling this way is not uncommon and Notoriety can relate.

Vydle Sinez and Incredible Chuck lace a smooth, yet dramatic, 5-minute flow over a beautiful Blended Babies-produced Jazz horn backdrop as Chuck comes in throughout with soulful singing to highlight the emotion being released, balancing the song out just right. Say goodbye to cliché lines, fads and lyrics and welcome something refreshing. On the inside, we all feel like outsiders.

Though it does not yet have a release date, “The Ground Table” is a compilation project which Notoriety created in order to bring all of their favorite Boston artists together. Each song, aside from “Outsiders”, will have at least one feature from a local, indie emcee and the production will also be provided by local producers. In an age where every individual is aiming to reign supreme, a unifying project such as this one is long overdue.

@MATTA_FACT_S2M #ATDSInteriew

@ShadohMusic #ATDSInterview

Can you give us a little introduction to you as an Artist?
My names Shadoh I’m a hip hop artist from Ardrossan, North Ayrshire, Scotland. I’ve been writing and recording music for 4 years now. i’ve worked with many artists & producers through out the UK and other countries such as Poland, Spain, America, Germany, France & Kazakhstan…. yes, thats right, Kazakhstan. The shits crazy. I’ve dropped 8 mix tapes to date & currently working on my first debut album that is set to drop on the 23rd of May 2014, its probably already out by the time you all see this so be sure to go search that up. I’ve traveled all round Scotland since the age of 16 working with many independent artists from rappers to indie singers. I’ve met a lot of good people via music, thats one of the main reasons behind my crazy addiction to keep making more.

How long have you been making music?
4 years.

How many songs /albums have you released to date?
damm!! I’ve released like, 9 mix tapes in 4 years although only a few are really still around online. I’ve easily flew past the 500 mark with single releases & features too… yet again, a lot of songs from the first 2 years of my music has been taken offline and only very few people will have the older projects. So, If you ever hear a song from you that you like make sure you download that shit because I’ve got a crazy habit for knocking tracks offline when I feel I’v progressed…
Get my albums at www.mcgmusicuk.bandcamp.com
Get my single releases at www.soundcloud.com/shadohmusic

Can you tell us about your new project and the background and inspirations behind it?
My new album started off crazy, at first it was all planned to be called ‘’Just Hip Hop’’ where i was going to do like 14 tracks of old school type tracks but then maybe.. 3 tracks In I had people ask me for grime, trap & dub step songs, I’ve been spitting on dusty vinyl vibe instruments for 4 years so I decided to switch it up. I ended up taking the album from a ordinary writing process to a whole new experimental project. I have rock tracks, trap tracks, old school tracks, funk tracks, grime tracks and even a few emotional ones. Due to all this experimental shit I ended up getting hardcopies made and selling them for £6.99. I always wondered if selling albums would go well or if it would be a disaster so I said fuck it and got em done. Everything about this project is experimental, its there for a reason. It serves a purpose, each track targets a certain audience. Even down to the track list, the tracks have been numbered specifically to make the album more enjoyable… I named the album ‘’get jacked’’ . The title can mean what ever you want…. until you hear the track ‘’Get Jacked’’ you won’t really know what to make of the whole concept…

How have you ended up in the music industry?
I aint in the industry, I’m in the community.

Who inspires you when you make your music?
Any artist who’s bringing heavy bars lol, recently I’ve noticed I’ve been listening to a lot of grime. I still blare the old school heads but theres some nice fucking grime out there right now.

Can you recite a few bars that inspired you to start writing?
Not really… I wouldn’t say I was inspired by someone else’s lyricism. If anybody, it would be eminem. In his good days.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your Career?
Oh shit, a lot of cats. I’ve featured with a lot of artists who I can’t really be bothered naming, if you want to know then check up my band camp, between artists and producers, theres hundreds of people now. Theres also a certain group of people I wasted a good time on… without going too personal, sometimes its just better to admit you cab collaborate with people who will just hold you down. so aye… any young artists reading this. beware, the snake population rises every year.

What book are you reading at the moment?
The Psychological Covert War on Hip Hop by Professor Griff

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
hmm… a high focus artist, they guys have shit locked. Preferably Baxter, Dike or Fliptrix. but saying that, I’m finding new artists to listen to every week.

What was the first album u bought?
Can’t Remember…

What was the first thing you downloaded illegally?
Music Software lol

Whats your favorite song at the moment?
Bilzar - Talking shit

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your drawer?
Aint really got CD’s now …. I just use spotify.

Your dream collaboration track for a future album - Producer & Feature artists (Dead Or Alive).
Elvis….

What do you do when your not making music?
Working a 9 to 5, looking after my daughter, writing, promoting, mixing, mastering, beat searching, job searching, smoking, oot galavanting…. Always kept busy.

How do you feel about Underground Hip Hop at the moment, do things need to change?
Nah… its growing. Theres always gonna be they fake bastards. we have a lot of them locally.

At All That Dope Shit we like to feature as much underappreciated artists as we can. Can you name a few guys from your local area we should check out?
JMC, no doubt. He’s majority slept on. Ciaran mac as well… tunes are epic.

What are your thoughts on the All That Dope Shit Blog?
Its positive, thats always a good thing.

@itsDanBull #ATDSInterview

Can you give as a little introduction to you as an Artist?
I'm Dan Bull, a man from England, and I rap about things I am interested in, which predominantly consists of geeky topics such as games and internet politics.

How long have you been making music?
I can't really remember not making music, so it must be a long time.

How many songs /albums have you released to date?
I don't know how many songs I've made, but I try to do a new one every week, and have been recording for ten years. I have a lot of unpublished material, and a lot of published material. I'm just about to release my third "proper" album.

Can you tell us about your new project and the background and inspirations behind it?
The album will be called The Garden and it is simply a collection of soulful summery tunes, quite a departure from my earlier personal / depressing music. I got fed up of seeing so much cynicism, sarcasm and irony everywhere I looked, that I wanted to make something that was simple and honest, and that could be taken at face value.

How have you ended up in the music industry?
I forced it to happen by accident, I suppose. Music was always my hobby, and always my ambition, but I never really got through any doors into the industry in a traditional sense. I built my audience very much through the video side of things, and without YouTube I think far fewer people would be listening to my work.

What do you think of the music industry at the moment?
I try to avoid it where possible and just get on with my own thing. From what little experience I've had of the mainstream industry, it's a very fickle and ruthless entity and I'm glad to be getting along outside of it.

Who inspires you when you make your music?
Anyone who is honest, odd, or just does their own thing. Artists that fit that criteria for me are people such as Morrissey, Lee Scratch Perry, George Clinton, Thom Yorke, and I could carry on naming people for days.

Can you recite a few bars that inspired you to start writing?
"Will someone please explain to my brain that I just severed a main vein with a chainsaw and I'm in pain?" - Eminem - Brain Damage. It just flows and rhymes awesomely. I listened to a lot of Eminem.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your Career?
I collaborate a lot with producers and animators on my music videos, and sometimes I will feature other rappers in my songs. My album will have feature verses from Beit Nun, Joey G-Zus, and possibly some others.

What book are you reading at the moment?
My Kindle is still in the lost property department at Heathrow Airport and I haven't picked it up yet. But I was reading the second book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. I can't even remember what it's called now :(

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
As many people as possible from as many backgrounds and cultures as possible.

What was the first album u bought?
I think it was Americana by the Offspring. It doesn't sound as good to me now as it did when I was 13, which is a real shame because it rocked.

What was the first thing you downloaded illegally? (Any source of media)
I can't remember my download history but the first time I infringed copyright was probably when I sang "Happy Birthday" as a child, as thing song is still under copyright. Lol.

Whats your favorite song at the moment?
I am currently moving house and have had zero time to listen to music, but my favourite song of all time is the theme tune to Ghostbusters.

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your drawer?
I have a little vinyl collection and if I had to get rid of everything but one record, I would probably keep "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis because it's a very versatile record and a very good one too.

Your dream collaboration track for a future album - Producer & Feature artists (Dead Or Alive).
Ronald Frankau, JS Bach, Cab Calloway, and God because if God exists it would be pretty awesome to hear him drop 16 bars on a track.

What do you do when your not making music?
I sit on a chair and stagnate.

How do you feel about Underground Hip Hop at the moment, do things need to change?
As long as people keep doing their own thing, trying new ideas and having fun, that's all that matters.

At All That Dope Shit we like to feature as much underappreciated artists as we can. Can you name a few guys from your local area we should check out?
Well at the moment I'm moving house to Birmingham, and there are some good rap artists from there, you should check out SonnyJim, Jimmy Davis, and Robert Kilroy-Silk.

What are your thoughts on the All That Dope Shit Blog?
I've never actually looked at it but I'm going to guess from the name that it predominantly features a lot of dope shit.

Anything else you would like to add?
Yes, I am sorry that I was mean to Daniel Ebbutt at Scouts when I was younger. I pinched his arm really hard and really maliciously and I have never had an opportunity to say sorry to him. Sorry Daniel Ebbutt, you are a stand up guy.

Today Apollo Brown releases his newest instrumental journey, a ride through early 80s Detroit, the sound caught somewhere in the transition between heroin & crack.  The album is a technicolor ride through pool halls and back alleys, in a city wrapped in the throws of early decline and day prostitution. The new instrumental album is 20 cuts deep with all the crackle, resonant warmth, and incredible instrumentation you've come to expect from Detroit's best producer, Apollo Brown.  Shout to Complex who debuted the album stream this morning. After you listen be sure to pick the album up at any digital spot today (the CD with bonus 5" vinyl & 180 gram Vinyl versions will be released next week).

@realjlive - Around The Sun (Album)

J-Live's 10th release and 6th full length album, "Around The Sun" marks yet another growth spurt for the indie hip hop veteran. "Around The Sun" features a smooth yet gritty OG boom bap New York sound. It's a cohesive work of art, but still an eclectic listen with a wide range of production as exhibited by the first two released tracks "Money Matters" prod. by Oddisee and "Not Listening" prod. by Korede.
